13th Amendment

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Freed all slaves.

This amendment gave all slaves their freedom. It says that any involuntary servitude is illegal.

Although the 13th amendment freed all slaves, it did not make them equal. Many years after the amendment was passed African Americans were treated unfairly it would take several other amendments and the Civil rights movement for the 13th amendment to truly be followed.
